The Beginnings
Shade of the Elm was founded April 2010 by Keravnos and Chaide, two real-life friends who enjoy playing WoW. It started off as a leveling guild for a small group of friends and has progressed into a casual guild where almost anything goes.
What We're About
We have players of every level, and we know that not everyone is as experienced or knowledgeable as some others in our guild. Our ages range from a few younger (but mature) members to the mature portion of us. While we prefer members 18+ we don't set an age limit so long as the member acts maturely.
Shade of the Elm is a hodgepodge of people who think that the persons in the guild and the experiences we have outweigh our gearscore and the content we see (despite and because of this notion, we down all current level content). There are avid PvPers, those that are still leveling (we love to help run through dungeons every so often and help out with group quests), and those that are both casual and dedicated raiders. World of Warcraft is a game, and we treat it as such. It is a sanctuary from the everyday grind of real life. We're a slower-progression guild where lower levels, new players, and WoW veterans come to have fun. We're made up of all sorts of players who have made it to endgame, but can't find the time to play and raid 24/7--Moms and Dads (yes, Moms and Dads of four-legged children count, too!), full-time workers, and students with priorities other than downing the newest content in two weeks.
What We Do
We enjoy running older content during the week as Fun Nights. As a guild we've run every raid in the game. While attendance isn't mandatory, people love to show up for a chance at achievements and just hang out with other guild mates. We raid 5-6 nights a week as a guild, and we currently have two 10-man groups running. The first group we produced is a closed group. The Avengers raid twice a week (of the six nights), and are still trying out new members for a set group schedule.
We are all about helping people level, and a lot of us are achievement-driven folks who want to try to finish as many of the achievements Blizzard has implemented as possible. Some members have been dedicating a lot of time to finishing off achievements such as: Classic Raider, Loremaster, The Seeker, Glory of the Ulduar Raider, Glory of the Icecrown Raider and more.
Recruitment
While our recruitment status is listed as "Closed" for all classes (we are not actively seeking raiding members at the moment), we will "interview" people that are interested in our guild. We are looking for like-minded individuals interested in the people, not the gear. If, after a short trial period the officers and senior members do not feel a person is a right fit, we explain this and send the individual on their way with our best regards. We are not looking for epeeners or freeloaders.
Cataclysm Plans
Cataclysm has hit! We're enjoy it to it's fullest extent! Now, we're looking forward to Firelands, and whatever new patches Blizzard throws at us.
